Nine experienced musicians who all love that unmistakeable ska sound. That is the essence of Big Brass Ska.
The essential ska rhythm section – bass, drums, guitar & keys – is at the heart of everything we do. The horn section gives us our trademark wall of sound. Out front, you’ll hear from Barry with his incomparable vocals, top class ska moves, and some lively banter – always clean though, our shows are family friendly!
We play all kinds of venues, including clubs, larger pubs, seated venues, festivals large and small, weddings and other private functions.
Based in Dorset we play across the region, and sometimes further afield. We have a loyal following, many of whom will travel to see us.
So what do we play?
You can expect plenty of those 70s and 80s ska favourites from bands like Bad Manners, The Specials, Madness, The Beat and Selecter. There’s some some old-skool stuff from bands like the Skatalites and The Pioneers, and usually a bit of reggae from the likes of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry & Bob Marley.
Our set includes a sprinkling of tracks from ska-punk bands like Reel Big Fish and Rancid, and one or two well-loved songs that weren’t meant to be ska – but they are when we’ve finished with them!
This is an up-tempo band, playing lots of high energy music guaranteed to get you up on your feet – as well as some of the more chilled easy skankin’ tracks. We think you’ll have a great night out!
